Врачи из США уверяют, что название этого диагноза может пугать не только пациентов, но и их семьи. Из-за этого мужчины часто выбирают более агрессивный метод лечения, который может ухудшить ситуацию и привести к тяжелым побочным эффектам. Переименование болезни в альтернативный термин, например «предраковое поражение» , позволит пациентам не впадать в панику и выбирать более осторожный подход к диагнозу.
«Слово «рак» вызывает столько беспокойства и страха. Пациенты думают: если я не сделаю что-то завтра, это убьет меня. На самом деле это не так» — сказала Лаура Эссерман, профессор хирургии и радиологии Калифорнийского университета.
